In my dissertation, the problem of disturbance decoupling with stability for nonlinear systems using decentralized static state or output feedback is defined and solved using differential geometry as tool. In the past few years, differential geometry has proved to be an effective means of analysis and design of nonlinear control systems as it was in the past for the Laplace transform, complex variable theory and linear algebra in relation to linear systems. The geometric approach has proved to be very effective in simplifying and solving many problems in linear systems. A primary advantage of this approach is the formulation of the results in terms of very simple concepts that give the feeling of the problems not masked by heavy and misleading mathematics

Teaching Strategies /ESL

When listening to a person explain their past experiences, I believe we gain some insight as to why they do what they do. During the 2019-2020 school year, in addition to being a teacher and principal intern, I was the athletic director for Napaaqtukmiut K12 School. It is located 118 miles above the Arctic Circle, in the Inupiaq village of Noatak, Alaska. The school of 105 students is small, but hosts large basketball, volleyball, and wrestling tournaments that bring people from other villages in on small planes and snowmobiles to watch. As the athletic director, the student athletes’ needs were proactively taken care of and unexpected needs were quickly met. Some of the roles included coordinating students’ flights and travel logistics, preparing visiting teams’ overnight accommodations, coordinating with school cooks, making sure food and fundraising concession operations were running smoothly, and ensuring that all students were wearing warm winter clothing and teams have their survival bags when traveling to and from other villages. It was a blast! A blast of severe cold, but a blast! As your teacher I enjoy teaching you. I have warm, caring, and inviting learning environments, where rigorous and engaged learning and instruction occur. The teaching strategies I use are proven effective through research and data. My goal as your teacher, is to help you achieve learning growth and success. Study well!

Mouminat Damer

English Literature  & Creative Writing

The principle of my teaching philosophy is based on three pedagogies: Collaborative, Process, and Expressive. Within these three disciplines, I believe a student’s writing will greatly improve. I guide students in forming the foundations necessary to produce well-written essays and creative pieces by helping them find their voice, heighten their diction, and strengthen their analytical skills—making clear the necessary perspective that writers require to excel. As an instructor, I aim to use the writing process to motivate students through self-exploration to discovery. This goal can only be achieved by a genuine commitment to teaching as well as an interest level cultivated by the instructor and upheld by the student. Leading by example, I work through the writing process with students, helping them find the expressive voice they need to master English composition and analysis, while being open to new experiences and criticisms.

English Language, Writing, Reading,

Both my education and my work-related experiences have prepared me to be the instructor that I am today. Prior to completing my graduate work, I worked for a Fortune 500 company as a technical writer, where I organized and completed process documents for software developers. This prepared me to collaborate with people outside liberal arts fields. It also gives me the upper hand in understanding the urgency behind students needing to achieve basic writing skills regardless of their field of choice. During graduate school, I also tutored ESL students in college learning centers and collaborated with full time faculty through internship programs and was exposed to various teaching styles and techniques. Furthermore, I have worked for various colleges, with widely different demographics and varying requirements for their courses, which has only pushed me to grow as an instructor to meet the needs of all my students. Additionally, as a lifelong learner myself, I am constantly attending professional development opportunities and have even become Online Teaching Certified.

English Literature  & Creative Writing

Ever since a student in my very first semester of teaching nicknamed me “Professor D,” I have fallen in love with the profession of teaching more and more each day. My passion for teaching courses on literature, composition, and critical thinking is matched only by my passion for writing, since I am both an educator and a poet. I have been an English professor at Cypress College for two years, Prior to that, I have nine years of experience as an English tutor for both native speakers and non-native speakers/ESL students, and seven years as a practicing poet plus over a decade of creative writing experience. I work diligently to create a classroom environment that is inclusive, surprising, useful, interesting, and fun. All of my classes are designed in such a way that students can feel encouraged while also being challenged intellectually to be stronger writers and thinkers by the end of our semester together. My hope is that students who complete my classes take their newfound knowledge and apply it to both their professional and personal lives, because English education has so much to offer. As a professor, I promise to fully dedicate myself to the betterment of every student who joins my roster. Some “fun facts” about me include: I’m an animal lover, an avid knitter/painter, a big fan of Netflix, a plant collector, and an advocate for equality of all kinds! Let’s learn something together.
